Western Georgia is green, lush and full of natural wonders. The perfect base is Kutaisi, one of the oldest cities in the world and once the capital of the kingdom of Colchis – the land of the Golden Fleece.

On the first day we explore the city with Bagrati Cathedral and the lively market before driving to Gelati Monastery. It was founded in 1106 by King David the Builder, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its golden mosaics and frescoes.

The second day belongs to nature: Prometheus Cave leads through illuminated halls full of stalactites and stalagmites, and in Martvili Canyon a small boat takes you between moss-covered rock walls over turquoise water. Depending on the season we add the Okatse Canyon with its walkway hanging over the abyss.

Good to know

Kutaisi has an international airport – the tour can therefore be the start or end of your trip. The caves stay at a pleasant temperature all year round; light rain protection is useful in the canyons.
